5) MOODBOARD
Once we had conducted a thematic analysis, we originally thought the next step would be to immediately start brainstorming design ideas that might bridge all of these themes together. However, before we started brainstorming we wanted to come up with a moodboard that expressed the overall “vibes” of what we were aiming to create/ encapsulate. Doing it this way allowed us to think in a more creative and abstract way.
At first, I struggled. I didn’t know what pictures to choose or why because there was so much freedom. As mentioned earlier, I consider myself to be extremely analytical so completing a task that didn’t have a rigid structure left me not knowing where to start. Overall, I think completing this exercise was very helpful for me creatively because it gave me the freedom and confidence to explore in whatever ways I wanted to. It felt like completing this exercise broke an internal barrier I had set in my mind about my struggles with being creative. I also think being surrounded by so many creative people in my programme always made me feel a little scared to put myself out there. I realised there was no right or wrong answer and the only way to get anywhere is by simply starting.
